Abstract

Symbolism is an artistic school, one of the literary trends dominated by imagination, which makes the individual the primary tool for practical meanings. And emotions are the dominant force, and the active influence in the age of imagination allows reason and emotion only to serve and be used by the symbol, searching for the guiding image that ultimately points to the idea or emotion. Symbolism and its foundational boundaries, according to Tawfiq al-Hakim, entered Arabic works through his exposure to Western culture. The Symbolist school has a significant impact on his works and on all literary arts. It is a technical and categorical development that prevailed in the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries after the tangible progress of that period.
