Abstract

The research aims to estimate the impact of changes in the exchange rate of the Libyan dinar against the US dollar on the Libyan trade balance for the period (1980-2024). The study relied on the descriptive-analytical method to analyze exchange rate and trade balance data, using the ARDL model to estimate the relationship between the exchange rate as an independent variable and the trade balance in terms of exports and imports as dependent variables. The Eviews 10 program was also used to estimate the relationship. The results showed a weak but positive significant effect between the exchange rate of the Libyan dinar against the US dollar and the trade balance in both exports and imports in the short and long term. It was also found that the exchange rate was not an effective tool for improving the trade balance.
