Abstract

This study aims to develop an integrated institutional framework for the use of artificial intelligence applications in redesigning university curricula and developing smart learning environments at Sabratha University. The framework is based on the perceptions of faculty members and students, as well as the requirements and challenges associated with implementation. The study followed a descriptive-analytical field approach and used an electronic questionnaire containing twenty items rated on a five-point scale. The sample consisted of 62 participants, including 39 faculty members and 23 students. Statistical analysis was limited to frequencies, percentages, arithmetic means, and standard deviations in line with the nature of the data and the objectives of the study. The mean score for agreement on the use of artificial intelligence applications to identify curriculum development needs was 4.10, while the mean score for their use in creating more interactive learning environments was 3.98. Institutional requirements also received high levels of agreement. The mean score for the need for appropriate technological infrastructure was 4.37, the need for clear policies and regulations governing use recorded a mean of 4.39, and the need for mechanisms to protect data privacy and security recorded a mean of 4.47. Participants’ responses also indicated the need to address privacy and information security issues, strengthen digital skills, and provide training and institutional support. Based on these findings, the study proposes an institutional framework comprising six interrelated stages: identifying needs and priorities, limited-scale implementation, curriculum development, capacity building, regulation of use, and evaluation followed by gradual expansion.
