Professional Competence and its Relationship to Academic Performance among Faculty Members: A field study on a sample of graduate students - Faculty of Arts University of Misurata

This research aimed to identify the relationship between professional competence and academic performance among faculty members at Misurata University. The study was conducted on a random sample of 100 postgraduate students from the Faculty of Arts. The importance of this research lies in its recommendations and suggestions for academic institutions regarding the role professional competence plays in academic performance. The study utilized a social survey methodology with a sample, and a questionnaire was used as the primary data collection tool. Data were analyzed using the SPSS statistical software. The study's key findings are directly related to the research topic: it was found that there is a relationship between professional competence and academic performance, and that there is a relationship between each of the following: cognitive competence, performance competence, emotional competence, and academic performance. It was also found through the study results that there are differences in academic performance attributed to the age variable, where the results were in favor of the age group "over 49," and it was found that there are differences in professional competence attributed to the monthly income variable, where the results were in favor of the income category "3002-4002." It was also found that there are no statistically significant differences in (professional competence) and (academic performance) according to the two variables: gender and marital status, and it was also found that there are no statistically significant differences in (professional competence) according to the age variable, and it was found that there are no statistically significant differences in academic performance according to the monthly income variable.
